Dec. 19 The reformed people were heavily persecuted under Duke Alba in the Netherlands. For the most part they fled to Wesel. Among the refugees there was also Peter Minuit father. Wesel gave them shelter and citizens rights. Being very grateful the Dutchmen then handed over this cup as a gift of honour. The Wallons who were also expelled gave another cup. Our picture shows the cups which were not destroyed during the war as they buried them in a coffin in a cemetery
