The Annual Day of the Drummers The last Saturday in September every year in a gala day for the youngsters of Amsterdam, for then, they are allowed to parade through the streets of the city and around the floor of the Exchange, playing their drums for all they are worth. The custom arose from an incident on a day in the 17th century when a boy is said to have prevented a gun powder explosion at the stock exchange. The youngsters have been rewarded ever since by their one day privilege, once a year.
