Jan. 16, 1964 - Reindeer Slaughtering In Greenland: For the past twelve years, a new industry has been pioneered in Greenland, based on the import of Norwegian reindeer, which are being successfully bred so that the herds now number several thousand animals which are being used for their meat. The young herdsmen all come from Lapland, and have to serve an apprenticeship of about four years, following the herds on foot in the summer, and by ski in the winter, stopping overnight in little huts. More recruits are being taken on as the project expands, and several young men are enlisting for the arduous life which they prefer to factory jobs at home.
