New Allied Mediterranean Command inaugurated, Malta

Mar. 03, 1953 - New Allied Mediterranean command inaugurated: The new Allied Mediterranean Command under Admiral Earl Mountbatten, was officially inaugurated at a short ceremony held on the bastion roof of Naval Headquarters at Lascaris, Malta, which overlooks Grand Harbour and where the officials of the British Naval Headquarters are situated. The flags of Britain, U.S.A. Italy, France, Greece and Turkey, were unfurled by sailors from each nation, whilst a Royal Marine band played the different national anthems. Photo shows the scene at the inauguration ceremony after the unfuring of the flags
