New British submarine Conqueror launched, Birkenhead

Aug. 08, 1969 - New British Atom Submarine Launched, Britain's new nuclear-powered fleet submarine, Conqueror, was launched at Cammell Laird's Birkenhead yard today, by Lady McGeoch, wife of Vice-Admiral Sir Ian McGeoch, Flag-Officer, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and a former submarine officer. The main role of the Conqueror when she goes into service will be anti-submarine. It is 285-feet long and with a standard displacement of 3500 tons.
