New clock at Alexandra Palace for BBC TV

Sep. 09, 1952 - New clock for T.V. to replace the Goodnight Smile a face for a face.: Two things are to disappear from Television the announcer's Goodnight Smile and the brass faced clock which gives viewers a final time check each night. A new clock has been designed by Mr. Robert Davis a London Sculptor. In future the sound-only news bulletin will be followed by the announcer saying goodnight. This is estimated to save keeping five view transmitters operating another 15 minutes each night. Photo shows Joan Gilbert the T.V. interviewer and Daphine Scholsz of the BBC staff seen as they admire the new clock at Alexandra Palace this morning
