New escape device demonstrated for use during fire, France

1974 - New Escape device for people trapped by fire is demonstrated in France. Disastrous consequences are often caused by fires in blocks of flats or offices because of the inadequacy of existing methods of escape. A new device for the simplest and most comfortable evacuation of people trapped in a building or any other high construction by fire or explosion was recently demonstrated in France. This new safety escape and most comfortable evacuation of people consists of a textile tube made from synthetic fibres so constructed as to stretch radially but remain absolutely stable vertically. Any persons conscious or unconscious entering the tube will descend slowly irrespective of their weight.
