New fibreglass police launches shown on River Thames, London

Mar. 03, 1963 - New Fibreglass Police Launches On The Thames. A demonstration was held on the River Thames at Wapping, East London, this morning of the first three of the twenty new River Police Launches that are being supplied for use on the Thames. They have fibreglass and weigh 3 1/2 tons, and will be economical in upkeep. Powered by Perkins 6/345 engines developing 100 bhp, they have detachable cabins, roof lined with acoustic material to absorb sound waves. Built by atsrorafts of West Molesey. Photo Shows: The three new Police Motor Launches at speed with Tower Bridge in the background during the demonstration this morning. They have a speed of 17 knots
