New life jackets on show outside Royal Festival Hall, London

Jul. 07, 1959 - Demonstration Of New Style Lifesaving Jackets In London: A demonstration was held at the Royal Festival Hall this afternoon of new Marksway Lifesaving Jackets'. They are foolproof - for no action is needed by the wearer - from babies to old age pensioners. Buoyancy comes from air trapped inside the lining. Panels of lond staple fibre cotton are let into otherwise airtight compartments that form part of the lining. When dry air circulates freely - when wet, the cloth seals up promptly to become both airtight and watertight, and they are designed so that there can be no leakage of air.
