New prototype lifeboat demonstrated, Littlehampton
1971 - Demonstration of New Prototype Lifeboat. A prototype of a new lifeboat on which the Royal National Lifeboat Institution has been working for more than two years, was demonstrated at Littlehampton. Built at William Osborne's yard at Littlehampton, the new boat has achieved a speed of 18 knots. She is a self-righter, 52 feet in length, and it is planned to build lifeboats of this class in the future with GRP (glass reinforced plastic) hulls.
