Jun. 06, 1979 - The only working Nuclear Reactor in the city of New York is located on the campus of Manhattan College, a private independent college run under the Auspices of the Brothers of the Christian School, A Roman Catholic Order of Teaching Men. The Small reactor which is used asa a teaching aid, consists of a reactor core, submerged in water, in the reactor vessel which is 8 ft. high and 10ft in diamter, It is operated by a control panel nearby. The reactor at the school since March 1969, has a thermal output or only one-tenth of watt. Brother Gabriel Kane, FSC, the 69 year old physics professor licensed to operate it likes to point out you couldn't even heat up a cup of tea with it, but it works, and it is a good teaching aid
