Nicolai Gedda, Swedish opera singer

Jul. 07, 1980 - Harry Gustaf Nicolai Gedda was born in Stockholm, Sweden at July 11th, 1925 as a son of a Russian singer and precentor and a Swedish mother. The tenor Nicolai Gedda had 1952 his debut in the part of the Postillon Chapelue on the Opera Stage of Stockholm. His first role he already controlled with bravery however it demands a lot of mastership in bel canto and to have the complete command over the High D'. In the next year a fall upwards began, like it's no often to find in the hard job at the opera-stages, the artist at the Scala in Milan, to Rome, Turin, Paris, London, Aix-en-Provence; by the Met in New York the Festivals of Salzburg and Munich he was very highly sought after. Mozart, Puccini, Verdi and the Italian and French opera buffa were for the young tenor with his skilled technique an ideal sphere of activity. Gedda, who gives vocal recitals in six languages, was during his artistical life awarded many prizes, among them in the year 1973 with the Deutsche Schallplattenpreis
