Norman St John Stevas, Arts Minister, launches Rocket

Aug. 08, 1979 - Mr Norman St John Stevas launches Rocket - the Rt Hon Norman St John Stevas, the Minister for the Arts, who last night was injured when his car was in collision with the central barrier on the M1 near Scratchwood service area, Mill Hill. He, his secretary, and the driver were taken to a hospital in Watford, only the driver was detained. This morning with the aid of a stick, he launched the demonstration runs of the newly built copy of Stephenson's Rocket in Hyde Park, London. The Rocket, which has been commissioned by the Science Museum, is on show to the public for the first time and will run on a length of railway track in Albert Memorial Road, opposite the Royal Albert Hall, from Saturday 25 August until Sunday 2 September, after which it will be on display in the National Railway Museum, York, which is part of the Science Museum.
