Nun and girl take O levels via TV broadcasting

Sep. 13, 1966 - Taking their O-levels on TV the nun and the girl in the mini skirt: The nun is Sister Mary Joseph of the Order of the ladies of Mary. The girl is Jane Walkden, 19. daughter of a doctor. Yesterday ANC TV announced they were the first two people to enroll in their GCE O level course. This is something of an event in television: the first adult education course leading to an examination to go out on a national network. It is well ahead of the Government's University of the air, which is planned for the next year. Students pay12 and get a text book and an experiments kit. Seven months and 28 half an hour Sunday morning lessons after their first lesson on September 25 they should be ready for the O level exam. The television people must have been pleased with their first pupils: for they do illustrate the diversity of students who presumably they want to encourage. Sister Mary is a teacher of languages and would like to teach science as well. Miss Walkden's boyfriend is a physicist, and she wants to learn what he is talking about
