Nursery slopes in Cairngorms for winter sports, Scotland

1962 - Winter Sports in Scotland: Scotland's biggest ski lift has just been opened in the Cairngorm Mountains, 30 miles south of Inverness. Winter sports have now become big business in Scotland instead of a prank as in previous years. The Speyside hoteliers have combined to start the Cairgorm Development Association and put £120, 000 into improving sports facilities. Already crowds of English and Scottish visitors are enjoying skiing with similar facilities to those in Switzerland and Austria. The new chair lift takes the sports enthusiasts to the top of the Cairngorms with the choice of several runs down. The season is expected to last until April or early May.
