1972 - World's Largest Tanker launched. Unnamed yet, 276, 000 DWT tanker is launched at the Ishikawajima Harima Heavy Industries Yokohama shipyard this week. As the ship is much larger than the dock, her bow section will be added in the repair dock after the launching. When completed in this August, the tanker will be the biggest in the world, measuring 346 metres long. its draft is 21.9 metres with the capacity for 350, 000 kilolitres oil, the ship will be operated by the National Bulk Carriers under a chartering agreement with the Gulf Oil Co.
