The oil came ashore between winverton, norfolk, and lowerstoff. the Elen V. was sliced in two on saturday night after a collision with the French merchant vessel roseline. 16, 000 tons. pollution could prove to be worse if the bow section breaks up, spilling another 3, 000 tons of oil. So far, only 1, 000 tons are thought to have been spilt. Divers succeeded last night in anchoring the bow section of the tanker which is precariously beached on a sand bank some four miles off lowerstoft. The stern section of the ship is being towed back to rotterdam. Photo shows.
