Olivier Brice with model of throne for African ruler
Apr. 17 French craftsman creates a throne for an African Emperor: Bokassa 1st, self-styled Emperor of the Central African Republic (formerly French), chose Republican France when he wanted a throne specially designed and made for his forthcoming coronation (December). He intends having a Coronation coach and eight white horses as well. The choice of this most bemedalled ruler as the man to make his throne is Olivier Brice, Algerian born but who has a studio at Gisors and another in Paris where he does fashion designing. The Imperial throne is now taking shape at Gisors in the form of an eagle with wings spread, in bronze, with a wing spread of ten feet. The weight of the throne when complete will be two tons.
