Olympics 1948 - Summer - Men's 800 Metres

Aug. 02, 1948 - London, England, United Kingdom - The close finish in the men's gold metal 800 metres race in the Olympic Games at Wembley Stadium this afternoon was won by MALVIN WHITFIELD of the USA (No. 136), who set a new Olympic record. Second was ARTHUR WINT of Jamaica (No. 122). and third MARCEL HANSENNE of France (no.151). The first three all broke the previous Olympic Record of 1 min. 49.8 secs set in Los Angeles in 1932. Fourth to finish was HERB BARTEN of the U.S.A. (No. 172) and fifth INGVAR BENOTSON of Sweden (No. 164)
