Aug. 08, 1956 - Preparation go ahead for Melbourne Olympic games. Building the cycling velodrome: Preparations are well advanced at Melbourne, Australia - for the Olympic Games which open there on November 22nd. Huge stands have been erected at the around the Melboune Cricket Ground - which is now the largest arena yet provided for an Olympic Games. Constructon work is estimated to be costing £5, 500, 000 (Australian). Record entries from 74 nations have so far been received. Photo shows Work in progress on the new cycling velodrome track - a 333 1/3 metre structure at Olympic Park, Melbourne. The track will have a thin layer of cement in its final form
