Mar. 03, 1960 - AUSTRALIAN OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST BETTY CUTHBERT SETS UP NEW 60-METRE WORLD RECORD: In windy and bleak conditions, records galore went by the board, and others were equalled, on the final day of the New South Wales Women's Athletic Championships at the Sydney Sports ground last Saturday Feb. 27th. On a sodden field, Australian Olympic gold medalist Betty Cuthbert set up new 60 metres world record time of 7.2 seconds, thus clipping one second off Poland's Stella Walsh's world time of 7.3 seconds, set up in 1933.
