Sep. 09, 1960 - Competitors leave for Paraplegic games in Rome: 51 handicapped British competitors left London Airport today for Rome, to take part in the International Stoke Mandeville Paraplegic Games, which for the first time are being held abroad. About 400 competitors from 18 countries will take part in the various sports, which include Archery, Basketball, Fencing Putting the Shot, Throwing the Javelin, etc. All the games, except swimming are carried out from a wheel chair. The Games, which are being held in the Olympic Stadium; have until now been held at the National Spinal Injuries Centre. Stoke Mandeville, Buckinghamahire.
