Sep. 09, 1960 - The 1960 Olympic Games in Rome - Herb Elliott zooms to victory and world Record in 1, 500 metres: Herbert James Elliott, of Australia, became a super athlete in the Olympic Stadium in Rome yesterday when he won the 1, 500 metres classic in the new world record time of 3 min. 35.5 secs. Bernard Jazy, of France, was second, and Hungarian Istbvan Rozsavolgyi third.
