Olympics - Pan American Games

Sep. 09, 1968 - Olympic Torch arrives in Barcelona.: The Olympic Torch from Mount Olympus being carried by hand on its way to the Mexico Olympic Games, exploded in Barcelona, injuring two Spanish athletes. A spare Olympic Flame, will burning in the procession behind the runners, replaced the one shattered in the blast, apparently cause by an accumulation of gas. Photo shows the Olympic Torch pictured at the Olympic Monument in Barcelona to where it was carried after its arrival in the Italian ship Polinuro - and from where it was being carried to Madrid and then to the West coast to be transferred to a Mexican-bound ship
