Feb. 20, 1976 - THE VICTORIA SPORTING CLUB INTERNATIONAL AWARD FOR VALOUR IN SPORT LUNCHEON AT LONDON'S GUILDHALL: A host of sporting personalities were present today at a luncheon at London's Guildhall to honour the recipients of the first ever INTERNATIONAL AWARDS FOR COURAGE IN SPORT. Instituted by the Victoria Sporting Club, an award is to be presented each year to the man or women, professional or amateur, who, by an act of courage is in a single incident or in a sustained contribution of outstanding bravery, is worthy of winning it. More than 80 countries joined in the search, nominating nearly 500 different candidates. The award itself is a gold laurel wreath valued at ?10, 000 - and the winners keep as their personal trophies golden laurel pendants worth ?2, 000.
