May 07, 1978 - 7.5.1978: 75th Birthday of the German Museum in Munich - in Munich on May 7th, 1978 the German Museum Celebrates the 75th jubilee of its invention'. In 1903 Oskar von Miller published his idea to build up a collection of masterpieces of natural science and technology'. In 1925 on an island between two arms of the River Isar the German Museum found its definitive place. Today the German Museum is known in the whole world and is one of the most important attractions. Munich has received guests from far and near. More than 18 million visitors could be counted in the last 25 years - and in 1977 there were more than 1.4 million guests. With an exhibition area of 37, 000 gm, the German Museum demonstrates vividly the historical development of the exact natural sciences, technology and industry by original machines and equipment, by reproductions, models, demonstration plants, pictures and drawings. Altogether the German Museum Possesses 45, 000 objects (15, 000 of them are exhibited, 30, 000 are in the depots). Linked to the collections is a library with 65, 000 volumes.
