Pablo Casals, Spanish cellist, in concert, Roman theatre

Feb. 29 Israeli music festival performance Roman theatre. As the dying sun sank off Gaesarca. Pablo deapla and Rudolf Berkin the final members of the Bach Gamba Sonata, to a hushed audience around the ancient Roman Theatre which was last used 1750 years ago. This was the climax to the Israeli Music Festival. Both the musical director of the festival, Mr. A. Schneider and the Prime Minister office director Paneral. Mr. Teddy Koilek expressed the hope that future Festivals will be centred on the Roman Theatre. The programme included the Haydn Quartet No. 5 in D-major played by the Budapest Quartet and the Beethoven Ghost trio played by the Stern, Istomin-Rose Trio. The apprehensions of the organisers that the wind might blow sand from the dunes into the theatre was unfounded, though the performers had some trouble with the wind blowing the pages of their scores.
