Parade in memory of communist martyrs, East Berlin

Jan. 01, 1953 - East Berliners Demonstrate For Murdered Jewish German Communists: At the same time as the Jews were being persecuted by the Soviets in all the Communist States - the GDR Government - the Eastern German Association ordered a demonstration by East Berliners in memory of two well known German Communists - murdered 34 years ago - Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg. A great parade was held through the streets of the city at at which pictures of the Communist Martyrs were carried. East German President Pieck gave a speech which carried the usual Soviet denunciations of the West. Photo Shows Delegates - members of the East German Armed forces - indistinguishable from Russians - during the parade in East Berlin
