Jan. 01, 1965 - GORDON WALKER BEATEN IN BY-ELECTION. SENSATIONAL SETBACK FOR THE GOVERNMENT. The Government suffered a shattering defeat in last night's by-election at Leyton - when the Foreign Secretary - Mr. Patrick Gordon Walker was defeated by the Conservative Candidate Ronald Buxton who polled 16, 544 against his 16, 339 - in what was considered to be a labour safe seat.
