Dec. 29, 1963 - Paul Hindemith dead: The famous German composer Paul Hindemith died yesterday evening (28.12.) in Frankfurt am Main from pancreatitis. He was 68 years old. He was born on 6. 11. 1895 at Hanau, was taught by A. Mendelssohn and B. Sekles, was in 1915 the first concert-master in Frankfurt and 1927 Professor at the music high school Berlin. During the Third Reich Hindemith emigrated to America and returned after the war in 1945. He has been one of the most famous masters of modern classical music. One of his best known works is the opera Mathis der Maler (Mathis the Painter), composed in 1934/35
