Paul Whiteman, bandleader, and Bing Crosby
Dec. 12, 1967 - PAUL WHITEMAN - THE KING OF JAZZ - DIES. Bandleader PAUL WHITEMAN, once known as the King-of Jazz, died in Doylestown Hospital, Pennsylvania, today from a heart attack. He was 77. Many musical stars had their beginning in Whiteman's band, which became most popular between the two world wars. Past members included Bing Crosby, Grote and Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey.
