Peter Chappell campaigns for release of George Davis

Aug. 08, 1975 - Jailed man check after test havoc: Scotland Yard yesterday called in detectives from Hertfordshire to investigate complaints against the police made by George Davis, 33, a London minicab driver jailed for 20 years for taking part in an armed raid at Ilford, Essex, in April last year. The decision was announced a few hours after a group campaigning for Daviss release poured oil on the Headlingley Test Match Wicket and dug holes in it with a knife and fork taken from a motorway restaurant. Davis, who insists he did not take part in the raid, has complained about irregular behaviour and conduct by detectives who investigated his case.
