Phantom aircraft takes off from Coningsby air base, Lincs
Feb. 26 Phantom Enter RAF Service. The first Royal Air Force Squadron of Phantoms will be formed in the spring of this year. Equipped with the FGR Mark 2, the squadron will be part of No. 38 Group, RAF Air support Command, and will be based at RAF Coningsby, Lincs. Introduction of the Phantom - well over a hundred have been ordered for the Royal Air Force - will substantially increase the capability of Air Support command's tactical forces. Crew training is already well under way at No. 228 Operational Conversion Unit at Coningsby, and there was a Press visit today to see the Phantom in service and flying demonstration.
