Phibun Songgram and Sarit Thanarat of Thailand
Sep. 09, 1957 - Friends of Yesterday: The ousted Premier Phibun Songgram (L) and Field Marshal Sarit Thanarat (R) pose as comrades while waiting for the arrival of a group of anti-Government students at Government House in Bangkok. The picture was taken when the two faced anti-government demonstrations by students in protest against election by the government and Phibun's party in the general elections earlier this year. Marshal Sarit was appointed the top man in control of the army, navy, air and police forces to quell the anti-government movement at that time. Last week however, Marshal Sarit ousted Phibun's government in a bloodless coup d'etat
