Philip Brian Cecil Moore, Queen's new assistant

Dec. 12, 1966 - New face at the Palace; Mr. Philip Moore began a new job yesterday as one of the Queen's two assistant private secretaries, His appointment is a break with tradition. For 45 year old Mr. Moore did not go to Eton and did not serve in the Guards. He was previously Director of Public Relations at the Ministry of Defense and his family have been civil servants for the past three generations. Mr. Moore takes over from 56 year old Sir Edward Ford (Eton and Guards) who held the post for 21 years. Mr. Moore is married with two teenage daughters. He was educated at Cheltenham College and Oxford, where he played Rugby and hockey for the University yesterday, Mr. Moore met some of his colleagues and was introduced to the type of work he will be doing.
