1962 - The world's highest travelling tower crane goes into action: A travelling crane, claimed to be the biggest in the world was on show today giving a demonstration before beginning work on building three 18 storey blocks at Maida Vale, West London. The 270 ft crane, made in France, weighs 60 tons and travels on 450 ft long rail tracks. It can lift up to 10 tons.
