Apr 14, 1962; London, UK; Britain's 2, 000 mph stainless steel aircraft, the Bristol 188, piloted by Godfrey Auty, 42, made its maiden flight today from Filton, Bristol, to Boscombe, down, where it is to be flight tested. The craft is solely for research into the heat barrier problems at high speeds. The picture shows the pilot, Mr. GODFREY AUTY, holding a model of the Bristol 188 at a press conference in London this afteernoon after the maiden flight
