PM Winston Churchill, Save our Churches Week, with athletes
Jun. 01, 1954 - Save our Churches week PM Churchill hands cheques to Athletes: MPs and Olympic athletes today carried cheques from Downing Street to four London churches in need of repair. The event was arranged by the Historic Churches Trust as part of a programme for Save our Churches Week which began yesterday. The Cheques, each for £500, were handed to the first team by the Prime Minister, who is a trustee of the trust. The churches at which they will be received were St. Margaret Pattens (Rood Lane), St. Martin (Ludgate). All Hallows (London Wall) and St. George's (Bloomsbury).The four runners at Downing Street were Roger Bannister, Gordon Pirie, Chris Chataway and C.W. Brasher.
