1953 - Contracts Signed For 53, 000, 000 British Aircraft Order Under The North Atlantic Treaty: Britain is to get orders worth 53, 500, 000 for jet planes under the North Atlantic Treaty. Contracts have been signed for more than 550 of Britain's latest aircraft. In these are 450 Hawker- Hunters, the supersonic jet fighter, and more than 100 Seahawks, the most modern jet fighter in service. Other contracts go to France with an order for 29, 000, 000 of Mysters Mark IV planes - jet interceptor fighters.
