Aug. 20, 1954 - 26 year old Dr. Joseph Cort fled to Poland aboard the Polish steamer Jaroslaw Dabrowski to avoid punishment by the American government for not fulfilling his military service. He had taught at the University of Birmingham in London. Here he is pictured in Warsaw with his wife(left)
