Apr. 16 Serious Riots when the American Secretary of State Alexander Haig visited West Berlin : When the American secretary of state Alexander Haig visited West Berlin on September 13th 1981 there were serious riots. After a peaceful protest march where more than 50 000 people demonstrated against the American politics of defence about 1000 militant demonstrators separated and ran in the direction of the town hall Schoneberg where Mr. Haig wrote his name into the Golden Book in the afternoon. The anarchists who were partially armed with hatchets destroyed window-panes, plundered shops, demolished cars, set barricades on fire and threw paving-stones at the policemen. After the conflicts with the police more than 100 rioters were apprehended. There were numerous injured people on both sides, 151 of them were policemen of whom two were seriously injured.
