Sep. 09, 1962 - U.N. General Assembly Opens Seventeenth Regular Session: The Seventeenth Regular Session of the General Assembly opened this afternoon at united nations Headquarters, and elected as its President Ambassador Muhammad Zafrulla Khan, of Pakistan. The result of the balloting was 72 votes for Ambassador Khan, 27 votes for Prof. G.P. Malalasekera (Caylon), one vote for outgoing president Mr. Mongi Slim (Tundsia) and 4 invalidd ballots. There were no abstentions. Here is a view of the podium as Representatives deposited their ballots. On the Presidential Rostrum are Acting U.N. Secretary-General U Thant (1.), Temporary President Mongi Slim (center and UN Under-Secretary for General Assembly Affairs, C.V. Narasimhan, who is also Chef de Cabinet
