US Politics - Government

Sep. 09, 1977 - Says Barbara Blum from USA's environmental protection agency.: The UN. Conference in Stockholm in 1972 didn't give so many results. It was a giant of a conference that took four years only to organize. And the result was mostly talk. The environment meeting Ms. Blum wants, preferably in Stockholm or Oslo this spring, would be a more informal practically oriented affair with much committee work where the nations really could get down to business. What Ms. Blum Regards as the most important question is international cooperation on a test program on environmental poisons. -69 percent of American cancer cases are caused by environmental poisons. There are hundreds of poisons and testing each cost about 650, 000 $. It would help with an international organization. As it is now, many tests are run parallel in the different countries. - our aim to be cooperation across the borders. We must learn from each others mistakes. And this time we will show results, says Ms. Blum
