Jul. 12, 1984 - US-German Patriot/Roland Agreement: On July 12, 1984, Secretary of Defense Weinberger and Manfred Woerner, the Federal Minister of Defense of the Federal Republic of Germany, signed the agreement to implement the Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperative Measures for Enhancing Air Defense for Central Europe, of December 6, 1983. Equal burden sharing and mutual re-enforcement of individual defense capabilities are the key elements of these agreements which, together, provide an important and innovative model for future cooperation among all allies
