Feb. 02, 1958 - General Franco Offers Medals to 1936 Decoy Pilot Helpers. General Franco the Spanish dictator - has offered medals to the British persons who helped in the 1936 decoy pilot.. They are Captain Charles Bebb a charter plane pilot of Carshalton.. Major High Pollard (68) of Midhurst, Sussex; his daughter Diana Pollard (now Mrs. Smythes of Oxford) and her friend Dorothy Watson.. They all trevelled in a charter plane with Bebb as pilot form Croydon to the Canary Islands to give the impression of a British tourist party.. The Pollards and Watson left the plane there - and Captain Bebb picked up General Franco and flew him from his virtual exile in the Canary Islands to Spanish Morocco.. Capt. Bebb has received his medal - but the others are just not bothering to accept..
