Mar. 03, 1955 - Europe's modernest rail distribution system was installed at Dortmund Central Post Office. Every day 400 000 letters are sorted here, approx. 25 000 an hour. The letters are carried by a special belt to the distributor works and thence, after a general sorting, by other furthering belts to the special sorting places. As the Federal Post has made good experiences with this institution, the same system is also to be applicated in other big towns. Photo shows the first, rudimentary sorting
