The Postmaster -Cum-Grocer at Salthouse is Ready for the floods: Last job after closing and before high tides at Salthouse, Norfolk, the village that was all-but swept away this time last year, is to let into the specially-bulit slots, timbers which they hope will keep the first on rush of sea from the door. Fred Haylook and his family lost all their stock, and nearly their lives last year. Now they are wiser, keep most of the stock upstairs, and have arranged this form of protection which would, they say, allow them time to get away at the back. Salthouse folk are angry that they have been apparently left out of national schemes of coast and flood defence. They have planned their own sea wall, but can't raise enough money yet. Meanwhile they try, each one of them, to protect their repaired homes, as best they can
