Pregnant Man poster, Health Education Council
Mar. 12, 1970 - The Pregnant Man: The figure of a pregnant man will start a nationwide campaign aimed, the Health Education Council announced last night, at stopping young people from having unwanted children. The man, clutching his bulging stomach, will be seen on posters at 1000 Family Planning Association clinics. HEC will also make free posters available to local authorities throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland for display at sites chosen by health and education departments. Would you be more careful if it was you that got pregnant? asks the text, which also encourages men to seek contraceptive advice. We want to make any ignorant or unthinking man stop and consider the suffering and problems he can cause through an unplanned pregnancy, said Dr. Bill Jones, Director General of HEC. Much previous sex education, which is our concern, has tended to concentrate on the girl. We are calling attention to the fact that their is a co-responsibility. We need to focus and dramatise the male's obligation
