US premiere of United Nations film, Power Among Men
Oct. 18, 1959 - U.S. Premiere Of Power Among Men': Power Among Men, the United Nations first feature-length film, had its United States premiere at the Exeter Street Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts today. Among those present at the ceremonies marking the opening were Mr. Christian Herter Jr. Chairman of the United Nations Day Committee for Boston; Mr. Thorold Dickinson, Chief of UN Film Services; and Mr. Virgil Thomson, distinguished American composer who composed and conducted the score of the film. Power Among Men, ninety minutes in Eastman colour, is concerned with the problems of man's need to control his capacities to create from 13 countries and principal segments were filmed in Italy, Haiti, Canada and Norway. This photograph was taken at the opening ceremonies during the speech made by Lady Petrie (standing), of the United Kingdom delegation to the current (14th) session of the UN General Assembly.
