President Gerald Ford slips on arrival in Salzburg, Austria

Feb. 28 Meeting of President Ford and Egyptian President Sadat in Salzburg On June 1st and 2nd 1975, US President Gerald Ford and Egyptian President Anwar El-Sadat have met in Salzburg, Austria. During this first personal meeting of the two Head of States, they mainly talked of the problems in the near East. President Sadat arrived on Saturday after a visit to Vienna, where he talked with chancellor Bruno Kraisky. President Ford arrived on Sunday after a visit to Spain and talks with General Franco. OPS: The fall of the American President at Salzburg, Austria: Leaving the aeroplane after landing at airport Salzburg-Maxglan, Gerald Ford slipped on the gangway and fell forward. But it was a fall without consequences. President Ford quickly regained his footing for the official handshake with Austrian Chancellor Dr Kreisky (left of President Ford). Keystone Picture
